News and Expert Advice

CATEGORY: - LAST UPDATED JANUARY, 2024 BY Kiko Toledo, Traffic Manager

100 years ago or so, there were folks who walked around neighborhoods with a long stick and knocked on doors and windows as human alarm clocks. Then along came a new gadget called the wind-up alarm clock. True story. Technology is constantly changing, and we often find we must change as well, or risk endlessly knocking on mute doors.

In the last year, the surge of AI-powered solutions has taken the world by storm. If you work in any segment of the tech industry, there’s an AI-powered solution for you. Video conferencing, of course, has not gone unrevolutionized.

At Worktank, we are constantly assessing new tech and how it can benefit us and our clients and believe the AI revolution is exciting, if not slightly dangerous too. Keep reading for technical use cases, benefits of AI, and our thoughts on what’s next as we head into 2024.

AI in Image Generation & Video Manipulation

We have found some of our clients have incorporated AI to generate images for their meetings or broadcasts. They use tools such as Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator powered by DALL-E to generate images more efficiently and quickly than a designer might mock them up. Below we tried the same with the prompt “heroic robot announcing breaking news from a mountaintop.” Take a look at how it did:

AI offers just as much potential when it comes to video editing, too. We have adopted some clever ways of incorporating this new toolset in our post-production efforts. For example, many pre-recorded pieces of content for a show have a very fast turnaround time. AI allows Worktank to make creative decisions that would have previously taken too long to be considered reasonable, which means we can do even more for our clients in the same timeframe.

There are tons of tools out there that make us more efficient at what we do. For instance, RunwayML’s AI rotoscoping technology is an intelligent green screening and image isolation service that feels like a magic trick. Photoshop also offers new generative AI for set extensions, which allows single-webcam videos of presenters a set extension past what the webcam picks up and allows for more dynamic edits.

AI in Text Generation & Transcription

When it comes to AI, you can take it beyond just the visuals. One of the more time-consuming components of video creation is the transcript for captioning and accessibility purposes. Recently, we have been making use of Adobe’s AI transcription tool, a lifesaver in creating paper edits of long presentations. Even using read.ai to summarize our meetings has merited good results and reduced turnaround time. This means less time doubling around, and more attention on our projects.

The Future of AI in Video Broadcasting

AI is a timesaver in video broadcasting and allows for much flexibility in decision making, and its ability to finish rote tasks in the blink of an eye is incredible. From where we are today, the potential for growth and reduction in process bottlenecks is outstanding.

As creatives, we always prioritize human intuition and skill whether it’s used in business or as a form of art. Try as it might, AI will never be able to replicate that. Moving forward, our approach to AI integration is simple: treat AI as the tool it is, much like a hammer, and maintain human supervision and quality control with every step.
